About Annual Subscription

Dear Resident,

I’m here to let you know that the Harleysville Area EMS, your local ambulance service, is soliciting for our 2020/2021 Subscription Drive. As a non-profit organization we rely heavily on your subscription and generous donations to help sustain our day-to-day operations. Your contributions go directly back to the community in the form of new equipment for the ambulance, training for our dedicated staff Paramedics and EMTs, but most importantly it ensures that our crews will always be there if and when you need us. Harleysville Area EMS is dedicated to providing the highest level of emergency medical care to you and our community.

If you should ever need to call 911 for emergency medical treatment and transport to a hospital your insurance may not cover 100% of the EMS costs. Your yearly subscription covers the balance of these costs. That’s how your subscription preserves EMS services in our community and provides peace-of-mind to you and your family.

Over the past several decades, emergency medical service has gone through many changes. Gone are the days of an ambulance merely driving the patients to a hospital in a station wagon equipped with lights and sirens. Today’s ambulance is a mobile intensive care unit equipped like a hospital ER on wheels. We bring many of the capabilities of the ER to your front door. Our Paramedics and EMT’s are trained to the highest standards of medical proficiency, attending educational programs that rival the most intense nursing programs.

Through your subscription and donations, Harleysville Area EMS is able to provide immediate life–saving intervention in your home or at the scene of an accident. Of course, these necessities such as advanced life support medications, cardiac monitoring and 12-lead EKG transmission, just to name a few, are costly. Faced with decreased reimbursements by health insurance carriers, we are forced to rely more than ever on your subscriptions and donations to sustain our daily operations.

As our call volume increases year after year we are in need for additional crews to respond to the number of dispatched calls. In 2018, Harleysville Area EMS was dispatched to 3,449 emergency calls in our area.

Help Us Help You – By becoming a Harleysville Area EMS Subscription Member you not only support our ability to provide you with pre-hospital emergency 911 medical services, you protect yourself and your family from being billed for costs that are not covered by your insurance company.

All of us here at Harleysville Area EMS would like to thank you for your continued support.

Respectfully,

Don Lynch
Chief/Director of Operations

FAQs

Why should I become a subscriber?

Your subscription helps ensure that we will meet our ever-growing community’s needs for emergency service. As a non-profit organization, a significant portion of our operating budget is supported by your subscription.  We hope you never need us, but your financial support allows us to be trained and ready when and if you do.

When does my subscription apply?

Your subscription only applies when you are treated and/or transported by us as medically necessary in accordance with the Centers for Medicare standards.

What should I do if my insurance company sends me a check for payment of services provided by HAEMS?

If your insurance company sends you a check for full or partial payment for our services, you are required to forward that payment directly to us so we can apply that payment immediately to your bill.

How does HAEMS get reimbursed if I am transported to the hospital?

In the event you need an emergency ambulance service, we will bill your insurance company as a courtesy. Insurance payments are applied to your balance. In some cases you may need to contact your insurance in order to assist us with your claim.  As a subscriber, once your insurance benefits are exhausted, we will write off any remaining balance due.

If I have health insurance, do I need a subscription?

Yes! In some cases, depending on your carrier, your insurance may not cover 100% of your bill in the event you need emergency medical treatment and transport to a hospital. Your subscription will cover the remainder of this balance with the exception of any deductibles as mandated by Federal Law.  This is not an insurance policy, but a great way to support your community ambulance service and reduce you and your family’s medical costs.

What if my insurance carrier denies my claim?

We make every effort to ensure that your claim is submitted according to NAAC standards. However, some insurance providers do not cover ambulance treatment and/or transportation. In this event, a subscriber will be responsible for the bill after application of a 25% discount.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. As a non-profit 501(c) 3 charitable organization, all donations made to us are tax-deductible.
